Welcome to the website of American Baptist Churches of Rhode Island. We are an association of 67 autonomous American Baptist congregations that have joined together to engage in God’s mission within our communities, our state, and beyond.
ABCORI has a long history of shared ministry and association. Some of our churches trace their cooperative ministries all the way back to the Warren Association which was established in 1767. Our churches value a call to ministry that is unique to their own communities, as well as the shared fellowship and encouragement that is available in their association together.
More than 150 registrants assembled in Westerly on Saturday, March 9, for the 2024 ABCORI annual gathering. This year’s gathering marked a change in format from recent years. During the day-long event, attendees participated in workshops; joined in times of fellowship and worship; shared a meal; attended to the business of ABCORI; and were treated to the gracious hospitality of the host churches, Central Baptist Church and Pleasant Street Baptist Church.
Voting representatives from 36 ABCORI member churches took part in the afternoon business meeting. Agenda items included proposals for the continuation of the interim board structure; the 2025 fiscal year budget; and the slate of nominees for the ABCORI board and its committees. All proposals passed unanimously. Ordination anniversaries, church anniversaries, pastoral transitions, donors, and volunteers also were recognized during the meeting.
To close the gathering, executive minister Rev. Dr. Courtny Davis Olds, associate executive minister Rev. Kathryn Palen, and host church pastors Rev. Dr. Cal Lord and Pastor Mal Davis led a worship service centered on the God who does new things (Isaiah 43:16-21).
